These past three years have been a profound journey of change and transformation for me. I’ve faced the heart-wrenching loss of my father and close family members. I’ve had to navigate the complexities of ending long-term relationships. On top of that, discovering that my oldest daughter has autism has been both enlightening and challenging. Leaving my job at DSS after a decade felt like a leap into the unknown, but it was a necessary step for my daughter's, and me.
Throughout all these changes, one lesson has become crystal clear: taking care of myself is not just important; it’s essential. Our kids are incredibly perceptive; they can sense our struggles, our stress, and our emotions. I’ve realized that when I prioritize my mental health, I’m better equipped to support my children through their own challenges. It’s about finding that balance, nurturing my own well-being while also being there for my GiGi and KK as she navigates her autism.
Resilience and determination have become my guiding lights. There will always be voices telling you what you can or cannot do, but I’ve learned to silence those doubts. I’m committed to staying the course, fighting for my dreams, and showing my kids that we can overcome anything life throws our way. It’s a journey of self-discovery, and every step, no matter how small, is a victory.
So, to anyone going through their own struggles, remember that it’s okay to prioritize yourself. Embrace the challenges, lean into your resilience, and keep pushing forward. You are stronger than you think, and your journey is uniquely yours. Let’s keep fighting for what we want, not just for ourselves but for our children too. We’ve got this!
